Website audit vs. Semrush Site Audit

A crawler finds patterns. A human audit decides what deserves action.

Semrush Site Audit and a Ready for Discovery audit can examine some of the same website evidence. They are not the same kind of purchase.

Site Audit is software for crawling and monitoring a website. Ready for Discovery is a bounded service that verifies findings, brings in relevant account and public-footprint evidence, and delivers a prioritized report a business owner can use.

Semrush Site Audit
A recurring website crawler and report
Ready for Discovery
A human diagnosis and prioritized repair plan
Valid choice
Either one, or both, depending on who will interpret and act

Start with the decision

Do you need a tool, or do you need a diagnosis?

Use Semrush Site Audit when someone on your team wants recurring crawls and is prepared to interpret the reports. Use a Ready for Discovery audit when you want a person to determine which observations are real, connect them to the rest of the customer path, and tell you what to address first.

Using both can make sense. A crawler can keep watching the site after a human audit establishes the baseline and priorities.

What the software does

Semrush Site Audit crawls website pages and organizes technical observations.

Semrush documents Site Audit as a crawler that can report page status, titles, descriptions, canonicalization, structured data, sitemap presence, internal links, and page-speed information. That can be useful for repeated checks across a changing site.

What Ready for Discovery adds

A person checks the evidence before it becomes a finding.

Automated output is treated as a list of candidates, not a list of facts. Material findings are checked against the live page and, when access is approved, evidence such as Google Search Console. The audit can also examine the Google Business Profile, public listings, and relevant domain or ordinary email-authentication records within the agreed scope.

The final report separates confirmed problems, informed judgments, unavailable evidence, and rejected candidates. It also gives repair priorities and acceptance criteria. The report does not include a ranking, traffic, inquiry, booking, or revenue promise.

The practical difference

What happens after the crawl matters.

Common questions

What another business owner may want to know

Does Ready for Discovery replace Semrush?
No. The audit is a service, not an ongoing software subscription. A team that needs recurring crawls may still want a monitoring tool.
Can Semrush work with Google Business Profile?
Semrush Local can. It is a separate toolkit from the Site Audit crawler compared on this page.
What does the human review change?
It checks whether a scanner observation is a real defect, records the evidence and limitations, and sets priorities based on the business's actual customer path.
Does the Ready for Discovery audit include repairs?
No. Repairs are optional and priced separately after the audit establishes the work. You may give the report to your existing provider.
